Chair's Message

Welcome to the Africa Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers. Our mission is to enhance geographic research and scholarship on matters relating to Africa by encouraging effective communication of knowledge and information, and supporting innovative approaches to geographic education on Africa. Our membership spans the whole spectrum: from development practitioners to academics; from seasoned professors to up and coming researchers and students; from theorists to practitioners; from individuals in the developed world as well as in Africa and other developing areas.

In the next few years, the Board of Directors would be working on a number of initiatives, including forging a more lasting relationship between Geographers with interests in Africa and African Geographers on the continent. We would also be working to increase the visibility and profile of the ASG online. The Board of Directors welcome all suggestions to move these and other agenda forward.

Message from the Chair

Welcome to Africa Specialty Group! We encourage all members to subscribe to our listserv so that you can receive the newsletter, announcements and updates. The listserv is also a forum for discussing issues of mutual interest to ASG members. There is not a lot of traffic so don't think you will get swamped with emails. Please contact me at abigail.arthur@gmail.com if you have any questions.
