Message from the Chair
The Applied Geography Specialty Group (AGSG) builds community among geographers who help their customers and stakeholders solve problems and execute activities. You will find us serving non-profits, governments, businesses, industries, and individuals. We are students, professors, and non-academics sharing knowledge from our professional and volunteer work applying geography in service to others. Please seek out the AGSG at Association of American Geographers (AAG) events to keep in touch with friends dedicated to using geography to meet real world needs and requirements. Improving our ‘communities of practice’ is about our interacting with each other. There are many ways to participate in AGSG affairs, and we want you involved. We need outreach volunteers to help ensure we offer productive events. For students, we hope you grow you career and future AAG experiences via participating in the AGSG after you graduate. For more mature AGSG members, perhaps you are interested in mentoring young professional applied geographers. We also include geographers who volunteer their skills and free time to community service, local government committees, social justice non-profits, arts committees, church communities, etc.
