    Dear Members of the RDPSG of the AAG:

    We invite submissions/nominations for the 2017 RDPSG awards below. Faculty, please encourage your students to apply where relevant:

    Regional Development and Planning Specialty Group Awards

    Nominations/submissions are invited for the 2017 Regional Development and Planning Specialty Group (RDPSG) Awards. The awards include:

    1) The Ashok K. Dutt Award for Best Graduate Student Paper

    This award is sponsored by Dr. A.K. Dutt, Professor Emeritus, the University of Akron, who is noted for his prolific scholarship on planning and development issues. There are no geographical restrictions, but the paper must deal with urban and regional development and planning. There is an accompanying $200 award premium.

    2) The A.K. Chakravarti Award for Best Student Paper on South Asia is co-sponsored with the Asian Geography Specialty Group. (Late) Dr. A.K. Chakravarti, Professor Emeritus, University of Saskatchewan, was a noted researcher in the field of agriculture and nutrition focusing on South Asia. The paper has no topical restrictions, but the geographic focus must be on South Asia. There is an accompanying $200 award premium.

    Manuscripts for both the above must be no more than 25 pages in length (double spaced), including tables and graphics. The paper must be scheduled for presentation at the 2017 AAG Annual Meeting, thus the abstract for the paper must have also been submitted to the AAG Annual Meeting by the conference registration deadline. Manuscripts must be forwarded by the head of the department or program or advisor, with a letter certifying that the student meets the eligibility requirements (including not having been submitted for other specialty group awards). Deadline for final paper submission is January 31, 2017.

    3) The RDSPG Best Undergraduate Student paper award

    This award is sponsored by the Regional Development and Specialty Planning group. The papers are invited from Undergraduate students who are working broadly on topical issues of regional development, planning and policy, preferably scheduled for presentation at the AAG 201 Annual Meeting at Boston, MA. The award carries a cash prize of $150.

    Submissions from undergraduate students are welcome from their undergraduate courses or senior seminars as well as entries specifically written for this competition. Each student can submit only one paper and the student should be the main contributor if it is co-authored. Manuscripts must be no more than fifteen double-spaced, typed pages including maps and other figures. Manuscripts must be forwarded by the head or chair of the department or program, or by the student advisor, with a letter certifying that the student meets the eligibility requirements (including not having been submitted for other specialty group awards). Deadline for final paper submission is January 31, 2017. If planning to present at the conference, the abstract for the paper must have also been submitted to the AAG Annual Meeting by the conference registration deadline.

    4) RDPSG Distinguished Service Award: for notable service to the Specialty Group

    5) RDPSG Distinguished Scholar Award: for mid-to-late career scholars who have contributed to the applied or theoretical understanding of development, planning and/or policy issues, and/or impacted the field through mentorship/teaching.

    6) RDPSG Emerging Scholar Award: for early-to-mid career scholars who show potential for distinguished scholarship in development, planning and/or policy issues though applied or theoretical research in these areas, and/or impacted the field through mentorship/teaching.

    Please submit the nominee’s CV or web-link bearing testimony of scholarship to RDPSG Honor’s Committee Chair, Jennifer Pomeroy (jpomeroy@ycp.edu) by January 31, 2017.

    Please note:

    A cover letter should accompany all the student paper entries and contain the following: The title of the Paper, brief abstract of the paper (100 words), name of the author/co-author, academic affiliation, mailing address, email address and phone numbers.
