    Apologies for cross-postings!

We are pleased to invite student papers/proposals for the A.K. Chakravarti Awards (see announcement below)--please distribute widely!
Please note that there are no topical restrictions to eligibility--only that the geographic focus should be South Asia.

The A.K. Chakravarti Awards for Best Student Paper and Best Student Dissertation/Thesis Proposal on South Asia (2 Awards)

These awards were kindly established by (late) Dr. A.K. Chakravarti, Professor Emeritus, University of Saskatchewan, a noted researcher in the field of agriculture and nutrition focusing on South Asia. The awards are co-sponsored by the Asian Geography Specialty Group (AGSG) Regional Development and Planning Specialty Group (RDPSG). The Best Student Paper Award carries a $200 prize and the Best Student Research Proposal Award carries a $150 prize.

    Eligibility and submission requirements:

    (i) There are no topical restrictions to the paper and research proposal (dissertation/thesis), but the geographic focus must be on South Asia.

(ii) The paper/proposal must be scheduled for presentation at the AAG Annual Meeting in 2020, thus the abstracts must have also been submitted to the AAG Annual Meeting by the abstract submission deadline, although exceptions may be made in case of mitigating circumstances. If you are not presenting this research at the AAG Annual Meeting, please provide your reason for the same.

(iii) Paper/proposal must be double spaced and must not exceed 25 pages including references, tables and figures.

(iv) Papers/proposal must be forwarded by the head or chair of the department or program, or by the student's advisor, certifying that the student meets the following eligibility requirements:

    • The same/similar paper must not have been submitted for other specialty group awards,
    • The same/similar paper must not have been previously published.
    • Dissertation/thesis proposals must meet the same stipulations and must also have been defended by the time of submission. The forwarding faculty member should certify this in their email.

    (v) All manuscripts should be fronted by a cover page comprising:

    • Paper/proposal title,
    • Abstract (250 words),
    • Name(s) of the author/co-authors, academic affiliation, mailing and email addresses.
    • Specific award category (paper or research proposal)

PLEASE READ AND ADHERE TO ALL THESE REQUIREMENTS. Any departure from these may result in automatic disqualification of the paper. If you have any questions about the requirements prior to submission, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Vandana Wadhwa (see below).

Deadline for final paper submission is January 31, 2020.  Please submit your paper/proposal to AK Chakravarti Award Chair, Dr. Vandana Wadhwa (vandanaw@verizon.net), AND Co-Chair Dr. Nanda Shrestha (pokhara@yahoo.com).
