    Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science

    The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science, in the School of Earth, Society, & Environment, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor with research and teaching experience in human geography with a particular focus on global development and environment, and social and environmental issues. The position requires an outstanding and innovative teacher in large and small classroom settings, and in-person and on-line formats. Responsibilities will include introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, and supervision of graduate teaching assistants. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate success and enthusiasm in teaching, and have strong interpersonal skills. While the focus of this position is teaching, the candidate is encouraged to maintain research activity.

    Qualifications

    Applicants must have completed all requirements of a Ph.D. in geography or a related field by the target start date: August 16, 2019. Candidates with a Ph.D. in hand, an active research agenda, and a year of teaching experience can be considered as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Candidates with a Ph.D. by the time of appointment, teaching experience with minimal research experience will be considered as a Lecturer.

    Salary and Appointment Information

    This is a full-time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track position. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will be eligible to receive summer salary from research grants and/or summer-session teaching. The appointee will be evaluated annually. The initial appointment is for one year. Pending successful evaluation, the appointment may be renewed beyond that contingent upon availability of funding and continued strong performance.
