Latinx Geographies

last person joined: 20 days ago

The Latinx Geographies Specialty Group seeks to create a global platform for: (a) promoting study of the political, cultural, economic, and ecological aspects of Latinx societies in/and geography; (b) encouraging approaches including critical race theory, anti-colonial and cultural studies that allow for intersectional analyses of the processes and structures that shape Latinx lives and geographies on local, national, continental, and global scales; (c) exchanging research, teaching, and mentorship ideas among scholars of race, Latinidades and ethnicity in/and geography; and (d) building greater ties between the discipline of geography and interdisciplinary studies including Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Race & Ethnic Studies and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies. The use of the term Latinx with an 'x' at the end reflects the articulation of multiple Latina/o identities (also referred to as Latinidades) across nation-state borders, ethnic identities, and beyond gender binaries.
