Geographies of Food and Agriculture Specialty Group

The purpose of the GFASG is to bring together AAG members who have mutual interests In the geography of food and agriculture.

The mission of the GFASG is to be instrumental in creating networking opportunities for students and faculty who study food and agricultural geographies but may be spread across disparate subdisciplines of geography. This specialty group will also provide an intellectual home for the multiplicity of exciting studies being conducted surrounding issues of food and agriculture in every type of space: rural, urban, exurban, and wild. The group will also facilitate the sharing of ideas and relevant information among its members and others; stimulate research and intradisciplinary partnerships; and provide awards to facilitate research In the geographies of food and agriculture. The GFASG will also encourage, facilitate, and sponsor the organization of paper sessions and discussion panels at the annual meeting of the AAG.

  • GFASG Board Elections Nomination Announcement

    A number of positions will soon be open on the GFASG Board. Elections will take place online in early March and be announced at our specialty group business meeting at the AAG in late March/April. The term starts after the meeting. The positions available are listed below. Each position is two years and the Vice Chair transitions to chair at the end of their term.

    - Vice-Chair
    - 1 Faculty at-large
    - 1 Student at-large
    - Website coordinator
    - Secretary/treasurer

    All positions have the same voice in decision-making, and specific tasks are assigned to the individual roles. The board generally has two to three conference calls per year. In addition, members work in smaller working groups to organize conference events, our graduate student award, and other activities.

    If you are interested, please send a short (150 words max) bio statement to me at by February 15, to be circulated before the ballot is made available. You must be a registered GFASG member by time you join the board.
