Announcing the 2021 U.S. CHILDREN'S MAP COMPETITION, where students K-12 competing in four age categories through 15 years old can enter their map drawings for the theme "A MAP OF MY FUTURE WORLD." Kids are encouraged to tap into their creative imagination and mapping superpowers to represent their world of tomorrow, ten years, or one hundred years from now! Your children/students can create an entry themselves or organize teams (up to three in the same age category) to enter the competition.

Awards include first, second, and third place and honorable mention in each age category. Six finalists from all age categories will selected to represent the U.S. in the Barbara Petchenik Children's World Map Exhibition at the conference of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) in December 2021. Maps by the international finalists may be featured on the ICA website, published in books, and used on UNICEF calendars and cards.

The Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS), which organizes U.S. entries in the competitions, and the National Council on Geographic Education (NCGE) give certificates and prizes, such as books and maps, to the entrants to further inspire our next generations of mapmakers.

Visit the CaGIS website (https://cartogis.org/awards/children/ [cartogis.org]) to see an inspirational video and learn more. The CaGIS website also has a teacher's checklist [cartogis.org] with links to entry forms [cartogis.org] and parent/guardian permission forms [cartogis.org], as well as a poster [cartogis.org] to share with your children/students. Information is also available on the NCGE website (https://ncge.org/programs/ [ncge.org]).
