    LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2023

The Landscape Specialty Group (LSG) of the AAG is pleased to announce the 2023 competition for the best photo that captures the concept of landscape -- whether human, physical, or virtual in nature. LSG's primary objectives are visually communicating the varied nature of what landscape means to geographers as well as providing researchers an opportunity to share with the community the magnificence of the landscapes that they study.

    DEADLINE: JANUARY 25, 2023

    GUIDELINES FOR PHOTOS

Participants should submit no more than two photos they believe capture the idea of the landscape by the competition deadline. Please see our mission statement to obtain a better understanding of the types of work that will best fit this competition. Entries should not be altered significantly in any image processing program. Submissions must be in the original size or not smaller than 1000 pixels in either height or width. Each photo submission must include a summary (maximum 100 words), which will be given to the judges, and a caption of no more than 280 characters, which will be used on LSG's social media.

Participants should prepare a brief presentation (~5 min) about the story behind your photograph and its connection to the landscape. This presentation session will take place in a virtual session from 12:50 PM - 2:10 PM MT on 03/26/2023 at the AAG Annual Meeting 2023. You must be registered to attend the annual meeting.

    ELIGIBILITY

All LSG members are eligible, regardless of career stage status. Any photograph capturing a landscape is suitable. The photograph may or may not be of a landscape you work in or study. Applicants must be a current member of the Landscape Specialty Group and registered to attend the Annual Meeting. For instructions on how to become a member, please contact the AAG. Please also be aware that there are no student dues for the Landscape Specialty Group.

    AWARDS

The winner will receive $200, with the image displayed on LSG's website. The runner-up will receive $100. We will also award $50 to the photo voted by LSG members as the People's Choice.

The results will be announced at the LSG's annual business meeting. The committee reserves the right to offer no prize(s) if the submissions are not of appropriate quality. All entries will be displayed on the LSG website and published on LSG's social media.

    JUDGING

The submitted photos will be judged by a team put together by the LSG's executive committee. This year the judges based in Colorado who are Masters-level photographers affiliated with Mile High Wildlife Photo Club are assisting us with the judging.

    HOW TO SUBMIT ENTRIES

Please email the photo, your name, your AAG PIN, and detailed contact information to the LSG Awards Director, Dr. Janardan Mainali, jmainali@stetson.edu. You should also indicate if you have edited your submission in any manner, including using camera/phone filters. Please be sure to use "LSG Photo Competition 2023" as the subject line for your email.

    USE of IMAGES & DISCLAIMER

By submitting, the entrant certifies that 1) the entry is theirs only and 2) LSG has the right to post the photo online indefinitely and free of charge. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the photographer. Any image used by the LSG shall carry the creator's credit line.
