The Latin America Specialty Group’s (LASG) mission is to promote education, research, and other activity relating to Latin American geography and to advance communication among groups and others with an interest in the region.  LASG was established by the Association of American Geographers (AAG) after a group of Latin Americanist geographers formed the Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers (CLAG) in 1970.  LASG works in collaboration with CLAG to publish the CLAG/LASG Newsletter, and identifies the CLAG supported Journal of Latin American Geography as the flagship journal of our specialty group.

LASG invites the participation of geographers from any region of the world who are interested in Latin America.  LASG also welcomes social and natural scientists from allied disciplines at our meetings and in our publications.  Each year LASG makes several student travel awards.
