Post-Doctoral Opportunities
The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) seeks an interdisciplinary postdoctoral scholar with a strong background in critical physical geography, environmental justice, ethnography, political ecology, or other disciplines where integrating social science and physical science are imperatively important to the research methodology. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to participate in research-based project activities, including leading social science research with community members and partners and analysis of social data such as information collected through surveys and interviews.
Read more about this opportunity and apply here: apply.interfolio.com/142085. Reach out to Dr. Melanie Malone at drmalone@uw.edu if you are interested or have questions. Also, do well to share this with your network.

Training Opportunities
- NASA ARSET Training: Earth Observations for Humanitarian Applications (https://appliedsciences.nasa.gov/get involved/training/english/arset-earth-observations-humanitarian-applications) Refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and other displaced populations are made more vulnerable to climate change impacts due to their socio-political marginalization. This three-part training presents concrete strategies for mapping localized climate conditions with risks faced by refugee and IDP communities around the world, and is a follow-on to our 2022 Introductory training, Humanitarian Applications Using NASA Earth Observations. The training will focus on flood risk assessments and specific challenges for assessing flood risk in refugee and IDP camps; gauging long-term heat stress in refugee camps and the challenges with decision making surrounding heat risk; and monitoring drought effects on agricultural landscapes in refugee settings using Earth observations (EO) to explore the correlations between anomalies in crop productivity and weather-based factors. (June 6, 2024 - June 20, 2024). Please note all ARSET trainings are free and open.
- Esri MOOC: GIS for Climate Action (https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/645d6a07eb82fb767bb0c012/gis-for-climate-action/) – May 1-June 12, 2024. A changing climate creates complex, interrelated, and inherently geographic challenges. Because it uses location as a common thread, GIS technology is uniquely suited to create clarity from myriad data sources and illuminate climate-related risks, opportunities, and sustainable solutions. Discover how GIS is being used today to understand and prepare for a future that requires more resilient communities, systems, and infrastructure. You'll explore the latest ArcGIS capabilities and learn how to create insight that drives positive action.
- Esri MOOC: Spatial Data Science: The New Frontier in Analytics (https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/5d76dcf7e9ccda09bef61294/spatial-data-science-the-new-frontier-in-analytics/) Aug 28-Oct 9, 2024. Spatial data science allows analysts to extract deeper insight from data using a comprehensive set of analytical methods and spatial algorithms, including machine learning and deep learning techniques. This course explores the application of spatial data science to uncover hidden patterns and improve predictive modeling. You'll work with powerful analytical tools in Esri's ArcGIS software and learn how to integrate popular open data science packages into your analyses.
Internship & Job Openings
